I've spent the past week using the ASUS Vivobook S16, and here's what I'll say off the bat: it's not flashy, but it delivers where it matters most
I faced no issues with battery life, everyday performance, and actually liked the clean, premium-looking design.
For RM3,199, you're getting a fairly sleek 16-inch machine that feels more expensive than it is, making it ideal for students, young professionals, or anyone who just needs a solid workhorse.

The minimalist matte grey finish immediately gives it that "serious laptop" vibe without looking too corporate
It's slim enough to slip into my backpack, and at 1.7kg, it's manageable for commuting or bouncing between cafés.
The aluminium lid and bottom give it a surprisingly sturdy feel, even if the keyboard deck is plastic. Honestly, you probably wouldn't notice unless you were really nitpicking.

In terms of performance, the Intel Core i5 chip isn't cutting-edge, but that's kind of the point
It handles Google Docs, dozens of Chrome tabs, Canva, Spotify, and even light video editing in CapCut without drama.
With 16GB of RAM and a roomy 1TB SSD, you're well covered for both work and play.

The battery life is surprisingly good. I got a full workday — just over 10 hours — doing mixed tasks
This means you can leave the charger at home and not worry about scrambling for a plug in Starbucks or the local library.
Now for the trade-offs. The display is where the S16 pulls its punches. The colours are muted and not quite sharp enough for any colour-accurate work. If you're editing photos or working with video seriously, you'll likely want an external monitor or a better screen.
But here's the thing: not everyone needs a creative powerhouse. And the ASUS Vivobook S16 isn't pretending to be one.

The ASUS Vivobook S16 is made for people who need something that just works at home, in class, or at the office
For typing assignments, replying to emails, or hopping on a last-minute Google Meet, this laptop more than holds its own.
It's a reliable, no-nonsense machine wrapped in a surprisingly polished shell.
If you're after a big screen, strong battery life, and dependable performance — and you're okay skipping the bells and whistles — this might just be your next laptop.
