Apple's latest health feature is finally heading to our shores. The Medical Device Authority (MDA) officially granted Apple a medical device for the Apple Watch's hypertension notification feature.
The tech giant confirmed it is currently following the necessary distribution procedures and expects to launch the feature for Malaysian users in early 2026.
This tool is designed to spot patterns of chronic high blood pressure, essentially giving your wrist the ability to alert you to a silent killer.
To get this running, users will need an Apple Watch Series 9 or later, or an Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later, running the latest watchOS
The feature is intended for those 22 years or older who are not pregnant and have not already been diagnosed with the condition.
It works by using the optical heart sensor to look for deviations over a 30-day evaluation period, starting from the day of setup.
If a watch pings a notification, it has identified potential hypertension patterns in heart data from the past 30 days.
Users will then be prompted to set up a Blood Pressure Log and use a third-party cuff to track measurements for seven days.
Apple clarified that this is not a substitute for a doctor, and the watch still cannot detect heart attacks or other cardiac events
Apple advises contacting emergency services immediately if you feel chest pressure or tightness.
