AmBank Group and Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet) announced today, 15 April 2026, that MyDebit cardholders can now use Apple Pay for their purchases

For the average consumer, this means your morning coffee or grocery run just got a lot more frictionless.

AmBank said its debit card holders can now use their iPhones or Apple Watches at most major points of sale, including pharmacies, petrol kiosks, and convenience stores, without needing to dig through a bag for a physical card.

Security is the anchor of this entire experience. When you make a purchase, Apple Pay uses a device-specific number and a unique transaction code.

This means your actual MyDebit card numbers are never stored on your device or Apple's servers.

Every transaction is authenticated with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode, adding a layer of biometric safety that a physical card simply cannot match. It is a slick, private way to pay that also extends to in-app purchases and online shopping via Mac or iPad.

Setting up the service is straightforward

You can add your AmBank MyDebit card directly through the Apple Wallet app by tapping the plus (+) button.

Alternatively, link it through the AmOnline app to start using it immediately across all your Apple devices.

To celebrate the launch, AmBank is incentivising early adopters with a limited-time cashback programme

Eligible customers who spend a minimum of RM30 per transaction for three transactions within a single month will receive RM30 cashback.

The reward is on a first-come, first-served basis.

AmBank's managing director of retail banking Cheong Chee Wai said the bank's collaboration with PayNet enables it to bring Apple Pay to its MyDebit cardholders via Malaysia's own MyDebit infrastructure.

"As the first bank in Malaysia to do so, we are proud to support national capabilities while delivering the same seamless, secure, and intuitive Apple Pay experience our customers expect," Cheong added.

He also said customers would continue to receive all existing rewards and benefits offered by the bank while enjoying the added convenience. For more details on the campaign, users can visit the official website here.
