This marks a significant national milestone as Bufori Motors officially launched the Bufori CS8, a high-performance grand touring (GT) car that is fully designed and made in Malaysia.

A GT car is a high-performance vehicle designed for long-distance driving, offering luxury and comfort while blending the attributes of both sports cars and luxury sedans.

This launch was timed to coincide with Hari Kebangsaan, positioning the CS8 as more than just a luxury car; it stands as a powerful symbol of the nation's capabilities and pride within the global automotive industry.

Here are some key facts about the homegrown luxury car:

1. The Bufori CS8 is completely designed and made in Malaysia

Designed and built from the ground up by the proud Malaysian men and women at its factory in Kepong, this supercar is unmistakably Malaysian.

In fact, 90% of the materials sourced to build each Bufori are from Malaysia. Bufori founder and managing director Gerry Khouri said that they strive to use locally sourced materials for their cars.

"If Malaysia made leather, we would buy our leather in Malaysia. If Malaysia made tyres that fit this car, [we'd] buy Malaysian tyres. As far as I'm concerned, we want to support the local industries," said Khouri during the launch.

Despite having a German transmission and differential, as well as a US-made engine, the body, chassis, suspension, electrical architecture, wiring systems, computer, and more, are all locally designed and made.

2. The car comes with Malaysian-centric technology

The cabin of the Bufori CS8 upholds the brand's reputation for meticulous hand craftsmanship. The interior is adorned with hand-stitched premium leather, carbon fibre trim, and features 8-way electric Recaro seats for both comfort and support.

Infotainment is managed through a 13.6-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen, which supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Wi-Fi connectivity. Additional features include a 6.1 surround sound system, a wireless charger, mood lighting, and a built-in SmartTAG.

For safety and peace of mind, the Bufori CS8 is equipped with a comprehensive suite of modern driver assistance technologies, such as ABS, ESC, TPMS, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitoring & Lane Assist, and a 360° camera system.

3. It is Malaysia's most powerful car

Powered by a bespoke 6.4 litre supercharged V8, this car produces 810bhp. For context, it goes from nought to 100km/h in just three seconds. It commands a top speed of approximately 320km/h, which is more than enough to enjoy on Malaysian highways.

It's also built light, with its monocoque body — meaning the body is a structural shell that forms the primary structure of a vehicle — made from a Carbon Fibre-Kevlar composite. Thanks to all that, the CS8 weighs at an anaemic, 1550kg.

4. The 6.4-litre V8 engine requires an annual road tax of RM17,430

For those seeking alternatives to the top-tier model, Bufori offers the CS8 with a choice of several other engines. These include a 3.6-litre V6, available in either a naturally aspirated version producing 320bhp or a supercharged version with 455bhp.

The brand also provides a powerful 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six engine, which churns out a hefty 550bhp.

The smaller engine displacement would drop the road tax to a more affordable RM4,380 and RM2,130 respectively.

5. This is Malaysia's most expensive car

The Bufori CS8 comes with a hefty starting price of RM2.188 million on-the-road, excluding insurance, regardless of the engine variant.

While this is a substantial sum, the cost is arguably justified by the car's unique combination of performance, exclusivity, and a level of craftsmanship rarely seen today.

"No car in the world is more handmade than a Bufori," said Khouri, adding that a single CS8 requires over 9,000 man-hours to build, a stark contrast to the 18 to 450 hours it takes for mass-produced vehicles.

The Bufori CS8 isn't just an expensive car; it's Malaysia's statement to the world

For years, we've been told that making a proper exotic supercar is a job reserved for the Italians or the Germans. But a little company in Malaysia called Bufori has gone and completely flipped that notion on its head.

They've built a powerful, genuinely exotic machine, and the thing is, it can actually go toe-to-toe with some of the most iconic brands in the world. That's not just a car; it's a rather magnificent statement.
