Filipino artist Whilce Portacio is a rockstar in the comic world. He started as an inker in Marvel! Guess how he was discovered? By sending in his portfolio at ComicCon!

He tells FlipGeeks on an interview: "[the San Diego Comic Con] was just a convention – it wasn't too spectacular. It just so happened that that year, [the editors] from Marvel were there, so I brought my portfolio."

According to GMA News, Whilce was one of the seven major artistic talents of the '90s who helped spawn one of today's biggest comic book publishers, Image Comics.
