The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has revealed that a member of parliament (MP) can receive up to RM40,000 in allowances every month

"When combined, the total income of an MP can reach RM30,000 to RM40,000 per month, as previously mentioned by the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim)," the statement read
The PMO urged MPs to manage their finances wisely and to always prioritise the interests of the rakyat, especially low-income groups.
The statement follows Anwar's remark that MPs should not politicise the funding issue by claiming financial burden due to a lack of allocations, reported Bernama.
"Many opposition MPs claim they are struggling because they do not receive allocations. Don't paint a picture as if life is too difficult," Anwar was quoted as saying.
He assured that all development and public welfare projects will continue in all constituencies, regardless of whether funding is channelled through MPs.
The prime minister said the funding will be channelled to hardcore poverty eradication programmes, which are implemented comprehensively without regional bias.
