A video showing a group of girls bullying and physically assaulting another girl inside a toilet in a school in Meru, Klang has gone viral
The video, which is slightly over two minutes long and has been circulating on social media platforms since Saturday, 21 June, shows the young victim pushed against a corner of the toilet and surrounded by others.
While it's not clear what's being spoken by the alleged bullies, at one point in the video, one of them grabs the victim by her neck and shoves her face to the floor, and others take turns slapping and kicking the girl.
Later on, one of the bullies is seen slapping the victim after she gets up.
A police report was lodged over the weekend
North Klang police chief ACP S Vijaya Rao said the incident came to light after the video of the assault went viral on social media.
"Police take all forms of bullying seriously, especially when it involves students. Firm action will be taken to ensure public safety and maintain order," he said in a statement.
According to Vijaya, the motive behind the bullying is being investigated.
The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
Vijaya urged the public not to spread speculation or unfounded claims that could cause public anxiety.
"Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact Inspector Mohamad Izroy Kamarulzaman at 014-818 3519 to assist in the investigation," he added.
