At around 5am today, 12 June, a 17-year-old student allegedly stabbed his mother and elder brother to death at their home in Taman Rambai Mutiara, Bukit Rambai, Melaka

The victims were a 51-year-old woman, who was a primary school teacher and a single mother, and her 21-year-old son. Both were found dead in the living room, covered in blood earlier this morning.

The woman's youngest son, aged 13, was seriously injured in the attack but is now stable and receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Melaka Hospital, reported FMT.

The suspect, who is due to sit for his SPM examination this year, reportedly entered his mother's bedroom while she was asleep and used a folding knife to stab her multiple times, reported The Straits Times.

When the eldest son rushed to help, he was also fatally stabbed.

Police found the folding knife, approximately 20cm long, in the suspect's school bag at the scene, along with discarded bloodied clothes in nearby bushes. CCTV footage from neighbours captured the incident and showed the suspect attempting to dispose of evidence, according to The Vibes.

When officers arrived, the suspect was sitting outside the house in a dazed state.

What was the motive?

According to Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar, the motive stems from pent-up resentment and emotional stress.

The suspect was reportedly distressed by how his mother and older brother were pressuring him to excel academically, including scolding him and forcing him study late into the night.

"Neighbours also reported frequently hearing arguments between the suspect, his mother, and his siblings," Dzulkhairi was quoted as saying, adding that the suspect has confessed to the attack.

"Based on our findings, there are no other motives," he told reporters.

Dzulkhairi said the investigation also found that the suspect had planned the attack, having purchased the murder weapon a few days prior to the incident.

The 17-year-old suspect is currently in police custody and is expected to be remanded under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder

"We consider the murder case solved with revenge as the motive," Dzulkhairi said.
