I've always found the beauty industry a little intimidating. It often feels like it caters to a narrow idea of attractiveness, and people like me who don't quite fit that mold can feel out of place.
So when I stepped into Clinic RX at Pavilion Bukit Jalil, I was pleasantly surprised. It felt more like a spa than a clinic. It was bright, quiet, well-organised, and most importantly, welcoming.
The front desk staff were polite, friendly, and helpful, long before they knew I was from the media. That warmth instantly put me at ease.

I was treated by Dr Valynne Ng, the clinic's Clinical Director. She's certified in aesthetic and regenerative medicine, and is a member of the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) and the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine (AAAM).
Dr Valynne takes a science-based, holistic approach that focuses on working with the body's own systems rather than relying on quick fixes.
I went in for two treatments: TargetCool for the face, and Exion HA Neck Rejuvenation for the neck
While the names sound a little like futuristic gadgets, both are designed to support skin health in different ways.
TargetCool uses short bursts of CO₂-powered cooling to instantly numb the skin. It's a way to make aesthetic procedures more comfortable without the stickiness or waiting time of traditional numbing creams.

In addition to cooling the skin, the device also has multiple applications:
- It allows clinicians to control skin temperature down to specific degrees and timing, helping to reduce inflammation, swelling, and bruising after treatments like microneedling, RF needling, lasers, and injectables.
- In "Boosting Mode", it can convert topical products (like hyaluronic acid or skin boosters) into micro-crystals that penetrate skin more effectively, accelerating absorption and enhancing results
- It also supports soothing and recovery post-treatment via cryotherapy effects. This calms inflammation by increasing blood flow and promoting oxygenation.

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps skin stay hydrated and plump. Instead of adding anything artificial, the treatment encourages your skin to produce more of what it already makes.
This is a great way to promote hydration, firmness, and texture improvement naturally, rather than supplementing with synthetic fillers.
Before starting, my face was cleansed and photographed for a skin analysis
This was followed by a one-on-one consultation with Dr Valynne. She allowed me to lead the conversation, answering all my queries and concerns, and explained what the analysis revealed.
She then walked me through each step of the treatments I would be doing, what sensations to expect, how the devices work, and how the results would develop over time.
The TargetCool treatment came first
The sensation was like standing in front of a tiny, targeted air-conditioner with quick, cold bursts over the skin. It did have a bit of a prickling effect on the skin, but was not painful.
Dr Valynne used the TargetCool gun across my face twice, and the treatment was completed within a matter of minutes.

During the launch event of TargetCool in Malaysia, we were given a sneak peek of the device.

She constantly checked that it wasn't too hot or unpleasant, but honestly, I love heated devices, the hotter the better. It was so relaxing, felt like a spa massage, I was already dozing off when she informed me the treatment was over.
This isn't an instant "before-and-after" type of procedure and the changes happen gradually as your body responds
Immediately after the treatment, my skin felt soft and supple.
Dr Valynne emphasised that lasting results rely on consistency, along with a balanced diet, healthy lifestyle, and quality sleep, and was careful never to promise instant transformations, which I appreciated very much.
I was provided with post-treatment advice, including no use of makeup or anti-wrinkle cream for at least two days, and was on my way.

Both treatments were comfortable, straightforward, and didn't require downtime
TargetCool was surprisingly pleasant, fast, and easy, while the Exion HA felt more like an investment in long-term skin support rather than a quick fix.
For anyone curious about technology-driven aesthetic treatments that work with your skin's natural processes, these two offer an interesting glimpse into what's possible without drastic changes or synthetic fillers.
