Malaysian @fitri_azeez recently gained online attention for sharing his perspective on living with schizophrenia
The 30-year-old from Perak shares both informative videos and skits depicting everyday experiences of living with schizophrenia.
One of his best-known clips shows him hallucinating while watching a video — the man on screen suddenly smiles eerily at him before pulling out a knife. Although unsettling, the skit gave viewers a glimpse of how vivid hallucinations can feel.
In another post, Fitri mistakes a dish soap bottle for mineral water, showing how confusing his day-to-day moments can become. He has also shared a video reminding viewers to seek professional help instead of self-diagnosing.
According to Fitri, sharing the videos is a form of healing for him
"At first, I made these videos because it felt like therapy," he shared with SAYS.
"I felt relieved and calm whenever I could share what I was going through, whether it was in a story or a skit. I didn't expect it to raise so much awareness."
Diagnosed in 2021, Fitri developed schizophrenia after struggling with untreated stress and depression
As he was living alone at the time, Fitri didn't know much about mental health or mental illness, which led him to isolate himself from others.
From 2021 to 2024, Fitri described the period as one of the toughest phases of his life. "I went through a hard time dealing with hallucinations and delusions. I lost myself," he shared with SAYS.
Once an active person who loved sports, he stopped doing everything he enjoyed. "I would change character and attitude depending on what triggered me when I was in crowded places."

It wasn't until a friend stepped in and brought him to see a doctor that he finally began getting the help he needed.
Since starting treatment, he takes medication and spends time reading about psychology
"I want to understand what my mind is going through," Fitri said. So, he started reading up on schizophrenia.
He also leaned on spiritual growth, spending time reading the Quran to strengthen his faith. "That helped me build spiritual strength and peace," he said.
Fitri has also shared the side effects of his medications in one of his TikTok videos. "It slows down your brain and how your body reacts."

Now, Fitri hopes his journey inspires others to keep going, no matter how tough things get
"Don't give up on yourself," he said. "Keep living as long as you're alive. There's wisdom behind everything that happens. Believe that God is answering your prayers — not too soon, not too late, but at the right time."
By being open about his journey, Fitri is raising awareness about mental illness and challenging the stigma in society.
