Meta's new AI chatbot might feel like a helpful friend, but it's quietly turning your most personal queries into viral content

Launched in April, Meta AI quickly hit over a billion users globally.

The chatbot, available in its own app and baked into Instagram and Facebook, promises a more human-like assistant experience — with voice conversations, smart replies, and visual generation tools.

Unfortunately, many users have no idea their questions are being made public.

Meta says "nothing is shared to your feed unless you choose to post it". In practice, that's not quite true.

A look at the app's discover feed reveals a bizarre mix of image prompts, casual chats, and deeply private queries — all tied to users' public profiles. Some are simply awkward. Others are shocking.

One user asked, "How do I improve my bowel movements?" The assistant responded with follow-ups about diet and lifestyle, all while the user's real name appeared next to the chat.

Other posts show users asking about sexually transmitted diseases, writing letters to judges, and even trying to sort out USD200,000 (RM950,000) in unfiled taxes.

Voice chats are recorded too. One conversation lasted over an hour, veering from political commentary to geo-tracked directions — all publicly visible.

What's playing out here isn't just digital embarrassment but serious privacy flaw from a company
with a long history of blurring the line between convenience and surveillance.

Meta has built a shiny new AI product, but left users fumbling through confusing settings, unclear defaults, and the assumption that their most vulnerable moments are safe.

Unfortunately, they aren't.
