The ASEAN All-Stars pulled off a stunning upset against English Premier League giants Manchester United with a 1-0 win in the Maybank Challenge Cup at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil last night, 28 May

According to Bernama, the match-winner came in the second half from substitute winger Maung Maung Lwin, who slotted home a calm finish after connecting a cross from Australian midfielder Adrian Segecic.

While it's said Manchester United dominated much of the first half, both teams' defence was tested several times

The All-Stars had a bright start with goal attempts from Hanoi FC's Nguyen Hai Long in the sixth minute and the Philippines' Amani Aguinaldo in the 16th, but both efforts veered wide.

United responded with their own threats, including a header from captain Harry Maguire in the 24th minute and a shot by youngster Kobbie Mainoo in the 38th. The ASEAN All-Stars came close just before halftime when Sandro Reyes forced a diving save from goalkeeper Andre Onana with a long-range strike.

In the second half, United brought on key players Bruno Fernandes, Alejandro Garnacho, and Amad Diallo in a bid to turn the game around

However, it was the All-Stars who capitalised in the 71st minute, when Segecic's pass found Maung Maung Lwin, who guided the ball past substitute keeper Tom Heaton.

The 72,000 strong crowd — mostly Malaysian fans who had come to watch Manchester United play — couldn't help but erupt into cheers as the entire stadium celebrated the first goal.

Despite a late push from United, including several close attempts, the equaliser never came, ending the match with a 1-0 victory for the ASEAN All-Stars.

Manchester United will now continue their pre-season tour, heading to Hong Kong to face the national team on 30 May at the Hong Kong Stadium.
