Nothing beats vintage charm.
Ever wondered what life was like in Penang centuries ago, during its most transformative era?
The newly opened Penang History Gallery, located in George Town, is an interactive exhibition hall that takes you back in time, specifically to the period between 1786 and 1957.
From ancient streets to olden houses, the museum depicts the early era of immigrants and British occupation, giving you a glimpse into the lifestyle of its past residents.

The museum spans two floors and boasts an impressive 37 distinct historical themes for you to explore
Each dedicated exhibition area recreates scenes from various historical periods, including the colonial era, World War II and the Japanese occupation, as well as legendary figures and national independence.
The exhibits are complete with costumed mannequins in era-specific clothes, period-appropriate props and décor, as well as framed photographs and newspaper clippings.

You can wander through meticulously recreated old alleys and traditional grocery stores where shelves are stocked with familiar yet long-forgotten goods.
Visit a classic barber's shop, complete with its antique chair and the scent of vintage shaving cream, or stop by an old-time porridge stall, picturing passersby once savouring a steamy bowl amid the street's hum.
Beyond these scenes, the museum also delves into the hidden stories behind some of Penang's street names.

The museum has traditional Nyonya attire that you can try on, a fun way to imagine life within the walls of a historical kampung house.
You can even pause for a nostalgic coffee break in an old-school kopitiam, soaking in the atmosphere of a bygone era.
Climb aboard a charming retro tram and feel the gentle sway of a mode of transport lost to time.
Professional tour guides are available, ready to share fascinating historical narratives and answer any questions you may have.
