Japan's Tokorozawa City recently unveiled a pair of fully wearable boots that look exactly like Taiwan's iconic braised pork rice, known as lu rou fan
These were not just a digital gag or an AI hallucination, but a very real, chunky piece of footwear crafted by local food model experts.
Created in collaboration with Fake Food Hatanaka, the boots featured hyper-realistic grains of rice, thick pork slices, and even a soft-boiled egg.
They were introduced as a premium gift under Japan's "Hometown Tax" system, which allows urban residents to donate to rural areas for tax credits.

To get your feet into these savoury shoes, you would need to donate 118,000 yen (RM3,092) to Tokorozawa City

Every pair is custom-made to fit the donor's foot size, ranging from 22.5cm to 28cm, and requires a production time of around two months.
According to South China Morning Post, Taiwanese netizens reacted with a mix of awe and horror, with some comparing the bizarre fashion choice to putting pineapple on pizza.
While the boots are structurally sturdy, some also wondered what kind of mysterious fashion would lead someone to actually wear them in public.
