From 14 to 16 May 2025, the Education Ministry (MOE) will be hosting Sambutan Hari Guru Peringkat Kebangsaan Kali Ke-54 in Kuching, Sarawak — and everyone is invited!

This year's theme, 'Guru Pemacu Reformasi Pendidikan', shines a light on the vital role teachers play in shaping the future of our nation.

It acknowledges educators not just as knowledge providers, but as change-makers who guide students through an increasingly complex and dynamic world.

As Malaysia undergoes major educational reforms to meet 21st-century challenges, our teachers are at the heart of this transformation — adapting their methods, inspiring young minds, and embracing innovation in and outside the classroom.

Here are seven unique highlights from the event that you won't want to miss:

1. You can kick off the celebration by joining a river parade

Only in Sarawak can you celebrate teachers with boat rides and river activities.

The 'Juh Kita Berekot Rami-rami' kicks things off bright and early, accompanied by symbolic perahu tambang (water taxi) processions to set the tone for the rest of the celebrations.

Date: 14 May
Time: 6am to 8.30am
Venue: From Padang Merdeka to Dataran Ibu Pertiwi

2. There's a massive education exhibition that spans three days

The Pameran Pendidikan Ceritera Guru will be the heart of the event.

With booths from state education departments, government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and the private sector, the exhibition will give you a deeper dive into the landscape of Malaysian education.

You can expect hands-on activities, inspiring teacher stories, and eye-opening showcases.

Date: 14 to 16 May
Time: 9am to 10pm
Venue: Waterfront Kuching (Zon A & C)

3. Don't miss the evening concert by the river on the first night

After a fun-filled first day, you can wind down with a live concert featuring music, cultural performances, and tributes to Malaysian educators.

This event will be open to all, so bring your friends and family for a wholesome night of entertainment.

Date: 14 May
Time: 8.30pm to 10pm
Venue: Waterfront Kuching (Zon B)

4. Chill out by the river with live morning busker performances

Featuring a panel of education experts and thought leaders, this open dialogue will dive into current challenges, changes, and ways to empower local students and teachers for the years ahead.
