Do you use Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB)'s services regularly?
If you do, one thing you should know is that KTMB offers exclusive fare discounts for students, senior citizens, and Persons with Disabilities (OKU). That means travelling on the KTM Komuter, KTM Intercity, or Electric Train Service (ETS) could actually be more affordable for you.
Here's a breakdown of each category, how much you can save, and how to register for these discounts:
1. Senior citizen discount

If you're 60 years old and above, congratulations, your golden years come with golden savings. KTMB offers 50% off fares for all senior citizens travelling on ETS and KTM Komuter trains, including both intercity and local routes for three years (renewable).
Here's how you can apply for the senior citizen discount:
STEP 1: Either apply online through your KTMB account or visit the nearest KTMB ticket counter
STEP 2: Verify your MyKad (IC) details
STEP 3: Your discount will be automatically applied whenever you book tickets online or at counters
Make sure your KTMB Online account is linked to your MyKad to ensure the discount will be automatically applied.
2. Student discounts

Students studying in Malaysia can apply for the student concession. This gives you a 40% discount on ETS and KTM Intercity fares, and a 50% discount for KTM Komuter fares.
You can apply for the student concession online through your KTMB account. It is valid for one year and is renewable.
You can watch KTMB's official guide on how to apply for the student concession to learn more.
3. Discounts for OKUs

Registered OKU passengers under the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) get a 50% fare reduction across all KTMB services.
All you have to do is bring your JKM-registered OKU card and apply at any KTMB counter, and your discount will automatically apply to your fares.
KTMB also offers priority seating and boarding on long-distance trains, as part of its accessibility commitment.
This special discount is valid for three years, and it's renewable.
4. Special discounts for government pensioners, army, police, and firefighters

KTMB's official concession list includes government pensioners (and their spouses), as well as active or retired members of the Malaysian Armed Forces, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and Fire and Rescue Department.
Here's how to apply:
STEP 1: Visit any KTMB counter and bring your MyKad plus your service ID or pensioner card
STEP 2: KTMB staff will verify and record your status in the system
STEP 3: Once approved, you'll receive up to 50% off on selected ETS, KTM Komuter, and KTM Intercity tickets
Concessions under this category remain valid for three years before needing a renewal.
