We recently experienced the high tea set at Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill in Sunway Resort, and let's just say… it's the kind of afternoon that makes you feel a little bit royal

Instead of being seated inside the restaurant's main dining area, we sat at the lounge area. Plush armchairs, beautiful sofas, and pretty coffee tables. It's made for your IG feed.

The refreshed Afternoon Tea menu is thoughtfully curated by Executive Chef Giles Langford, and is so much more than just the pretty, bite-sized food on the three-tier stand, it's about the experience.

Getting dressed up, feeling classy, sipping on tea while you spill the tea with your bestie (or bes-tea, if you will).

First up is their signature tea trolley service

Now, keep in mind that I am a pleb, so this was the first time I have ever experienced tableside tea trolley service. I… didn't even know such a thing even existed. 🙂

There are 12 different teas to choose from including black, green, oolong, and premium teas, which are enhanced by different ingredients to give you an even more elevated flavour.

From ginseng and lemongrass to lavender and berries, you'll definitely find a tea that tickles your fancy. And even if you're not that into your first choice, both tea and coffee are free-flow during your high tea service, so you can always have another.

I'm not a tea person so what I was most excited about was actually the selection of honey that the tea trolley offered. With selections like Royal Honey and Jungle Honey, it was difficult to decide what to accompany my cup of tea.

You can also select fresh herbs like rosemary, thyme, or sage to add into the mix, based on what's in season.

It was far too many decisions for me to make so I trusted the lovely server to create something delicious for me, and she did not disappoint.

I will also admit that I ate most of the honey directly from my little pot with a spoon.

The savouries stood out for all the right reasons

Small but mighty, the savoury selection of the high tea was scrumptious. we found no fault in any of the four bites. From immaculate plating to deep flavour profiles, here's what we had:

  • White asparagus tart with black truffle: It was rich, creamy, and earthy.
  • Tuna otoro with caviar: Fresh, light fish in a tiny crispy pastry shell.
  • Scotch quail egg: A perfectly done egg wrapped in potato. We love potato.
  • Mini beef wellington: A tiny version of the signature dish, the beef was tender, pastry was flaky, and the bite was packed with flavour.

The sandwiches were classic tea set staples: smoked salmon with cream cheese and roast beef with horseradish

But the true standouts were the scones

Buttery, warm, and so light, the Earl Grey scones and vanilla scones were "little bites of heaven", as my colleague put it.

They came with Devon clotted cream and strawberry preserves. We loved that they were mini so you didn't feel that heaviness that comes with biting through giant scones.

Even so, we both ate three each, loaded with extra clotted cream and generous dollops of jam.

Perfectly soft with that iconic golden crust. They will forever be the benchmark that we measure other scones against.

The dessert platter was colourful, gorgeous, and created for those with a serious sweet tooth

Here's what we had:

  • Valrhona 64% chocolate tart with hazelnut praline: My absolute favourite. Rich, smooth, decadent.
  • Zabaglione with cinnamon wafer: A close second, this zabaglione came with a citrusy richness that felt fresh and tangy.
  • Paris-Brest with citrus cream: Another top treat (I really love lemon-flavoured desserts!), this was balanced, fluffy, and zingy.
  • Pavlova with raspberry and bergamot: So pretty, we loved the raspberry but the meringue was a little too chewy for our liking.
  • Ivoire cannoli, fig and vanilla macaron, and passionfruit pâte de fruit: By this time, we were stuffed and could only manage small nibbles.

Admittedly, it leaned a little sweet overall, but that's par for the course with most tea sets.
