Malaysian-born comedian and actor Ronny Chieng has become a US citizen

In a video posted by The Daily Show yesterday, 6 April, Chieng, who serves as a host and correspondent on the programme, was seen interacting with the audience during a Q&A session when actor Bill Murray made a surprise appearance.

Murray, known for his iconic role in Ghostbusters, had been on the show earlier to promote his film, The Friend.

Crashing the session, he said, "I just walked backstage… They said that you're very excited today because you just found out that you have become an American citizen."

"Thank you so much… You're the best," Chieng responded.

After Murray exited, Chieng entertained the crowd by recounting his experience of undergoing the US citizenship interview

"It is a crazy experience to become a US citizen on the same day you're supposed to interview Bill Murray.

"I had to go for the interview. They asked you like 100 questions. It's questions which I bet none of you could f*\*answer.

"And I had to memorise how many colonies there were, there was like a state, and who's the president right now. It was very difficult," he recounted to a laughing crowd.

Chieng rose to fame in 2015 after becoming a senior correspondent on _The Daily Show_

Since then, he has appeared in major box office hits, including Crazy Rich Asians, Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings, Kung Fu Panda 4, and Godzilla Vs Kong, among others.

He also has three stand-up comedy specials on Netflix.

As a host and correspondent on The Daily Show, Chieng is known for his razor-sharp humour and incisive commentary on pressing social and political topics.

One of his early highlights was interviewing billionaire Bill Gates about reinventing toilets in December 2018.

On 7 November last year, two days after Donald Trump won the US election, Chieng playfully showed off his Malaysian passport on the show, joking that he would return to his home country.
