Cinema-goers in Malaysia are saying goodbye to a familiar name as MBO Cinemas has announced it will be closing all operations permanently
In a heartfelt message to customers, MBO thanked movie lovers for being part of their cinematic journey.
"All the cheers and laughter in packed halls to the quiet moments during heartfelt scenes meant the world to us. From all of us at MBO Cinemas, thank you for filling our seats, and our hearts," the statement read.
MBO Cinemas originally shuttered its outlets in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but returned in 2021 under new management after a majority of its assets were acquired by Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC)

Despite the comeback, the chain will now cease operations for good.
At its peak, MBO operated cinemas across Selangor, Pahang, Melaka, Perak, and Johor, offering audiences a mix of local and international films.
It was the third largest cinema chain in Malaysia.
The closure marks the end of an era for fans who enjoyed MBO's intimate and accessible cinema experience.
Customers with outstanding tickets or refund issues are advised to contact MBO via email at [email protected].
