Former ‘Akademi Fantasia’ Contestant Amirul Azwan Dies At 37

The 37-year-old is believed to have suffered a fatal heart attack in Kuching.

Another former Akademi Fantasia Season 4 (AF4) contestant has died, just weeks after the loss of Lotter P Edwin

Amirul Azwan Mohd Ghazali, 37, died today, 25 November, believed to be from a heart attack, according to Berita Harian.

The news was confirmed by his AF4 batchmate, Dr Syamsul Hirdy Muhid, better known as Diddy Hirdy.

Dr Syamsul said that he received word of Amirul's passing earlier this morning from an employee of his, who is also a cousin of Amirul's wife.

"We haven't been in touch for a long time. But I was informed of his passing by one of my staff members.

"His body is currently at a hospital in Kuching, Sarawak. I was told he had no known medical history, so a post-mortem is being carried out at 2pm," he was quoted as saying.

Amirul leaves behind his wife

The couple married in 2023, and she is currently in her third trimester of pregnancy.

His passing comes shortly after the death of another AF4 contestant, Lotter, whose family announced his death on Facebook

News of Lotter's death on 18 October was shared by his sibling.

Lotter rose to prominence on Akademi Fantasia Season 4, known for his vibrant personality and strong vocals, according to the New Straits Times.

Born on 30 April 1982, he released several songs as a solo artist and with his siblings under their pop-rock band, The Divine Masters.

He also collaborated with various local singers throughout his career.

Outside of music, he worked as a radio announcer with Suria FM Sabah and Kupikupifm, where his cheerful personality made him a familiar voice to listeners across the state.
