On 14 January, world No.1 towerrunner Soh Wai Ching set a new record for climbing all 106 floors of The Exchange 106 @ TRX in just 13 minutes and 7 seconds.
But not many knew about another blockbuster challenge that was happening at the same time.

In addition to his goal of attempting to set a new best in the Malaysian Book of Records, Soh was also racing against the clock to complete a separate challenge alongside 14-year-old Malaysian superbike prodigy Qabil Irfan, who also holds several impressive speed achievements of his own, including winning the FIM MiniGP Malaysia at just 12 years old.

The challenge, which has been kept under wraps till now, involved Soh and Qabil working together despite being in completely separate locations
While Soh was at The Exchange 106, Qabil was completing rapid laps at a race track, with a physical barrier slowly closing off his route the more he progressed and potentially causing him to collide with the barrier.

Soh's challenge was to hit a button at the very top of The Exchange 106 that would stop the physical barrier on the race track from blocking off Qabil's route.

This meant that both athletes were relying upon each other's speed to ensure the challenge was a success.
After a punishing sprint upwards, Soh finally reached the top with just milliseconds left to spare

At this point, the network supporting the entire challenge comes into the spotlight
It is revealed that the signal triggered by Soh pressing the button was carried over CelcomDigi's 5G connectivity, linking the top of The Exchange 106 to the race track in real-time.

There was no margin for delay or interruption. The response had to be immediate, and it had to work the first time. In that sense, the challenge didn't only test the athletes involved, but also whether the connection behind the scenes could keep up with the demands placed on it.
This event was practical proof of CelcomDigi's class-leading network reliability in Malaysia
